Statement
My work is a window into inner worlds—an invitation to journey through color and form, where abstract landscapes emerge from the synthesis of memories, places I once inhabited, experiences, and emotions. Dreamlike scenes coexist harmoniously with tiny characters or objects depicted in a figurative plastic language, guiding the viewer to position themselves within the artwork and ultimately make those moments their own, captured on raw canvas. Communication is an essential part of art. Beyond technique and skill, I feel deeply fulfilled when people unfamiliar with the art world, with no specialized knowledge, can understand and connect with my painting.
I work with different techniques, explore materials, observe, practice, and repeat the same stroke many times—until I realize that my creative process begins with learning how to see. Training the eye is essential, absorbing what surrounds me to achieve color accuracy in my creations, allowing me to convey the essence of what I see and feel in each piece.
To achieve this, I compose landscapes using shapes that I distill into abstraction and colors that often exist only in my memory. Each brushstroke, layered stain of color, wash, and every mark created with energy and conviction is an attempt to capture the essence of what I feel and once experienced. Every stroke or technique demands a specific attitude, making the combination of materials and their diverse applications essential. This is my aesthetic exercise—the path that leads me to understand that a landscape is not a reality in itself unless it is framed by the gaze of the observer. There are as many ways to interpret it as there are eyes that rest upon it or actions that interact with it.
As an artist, my challenge is nothing more than learning to see so I can share the emotion of everything that surrounds me.
Bio
Elena Montesinos is a visual artist whose passion for art emerged at an early age. She graduated in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, specializing in drawing and painting, which marked the beginning of her artistic career.
Since 2008, she has been exhibiting her work in various national and international exhibitions. Her ability to convey emotions and narratives through painting has made her a versatile and creative artist.
The year 2015 marked a turning point in her career when she decided to travel to the small island of Formentera to participate in an Artists’ Fair. The influence of the Mediterranean landscape and her commitment to artistic experimentation became evident during the eight consecutive summers she spent on the island, where she ultimately decided to settle.
He painted daily and exhibited his works in galleries and fairs. Persistently, he observed and recreated the same insular landscape insistently, exploring different techniques, materials and supports, but always with the same horizon. At each fair he showed his work to people of diverse backgrounds and artistic affinities, which allowed him to learn from their reactions and perceptions. Thanks to this interaction, he refined his technique and deepened his search for a unique artistic language.
What could have been interpreted as a creative block - the repetition of the same landscape over and over again - became a technical exercise in research, trial and error, reaffirmation and stylistic confidence for her.
Finally, in 2022, he decided to leave the island of Formentera with the intention of exploring and presenting new horizons and landscapes through his art, taking with him the rich experience and artistic evolution he gained in twenty-two idyllic kilometres of the Mediterranean.
