ABSTR-ACCIÓN, diálogos y color.
Formentera 2017
"Souvenir" is a project that unconsciously emerges from the need to explore memory, nostalgia, and the feeling of uprootedness from a place. The need for belonging is inevitable—during adolescence, feeling part of a group can be a lifeline, a way to blend in, to shape an identity, to break away from it, to establish oneself in adulthood… These are concepts that linger and take root. This need has been ingrained in us as social beings—it is in our nature, another form of survival. For a long time, the question "Where are you from?" unsettled me; I never had a single right answer. Today, after Souvenir, I realize that all of them were. This project is a journey through my memory—some recollections are recent, others surfaced while searching for stories to compose and interweave. Sixteen bare, untreated canvases reveal sixteen stories drawn from my memory, narrated through forms distilled into abstraction and colors that often exist only within my mind. The works are inhabited by tiny, flesh-and-blood characters—diminutive beings adrift in skies that may only be revisited through memory. Each canvas is a souvenir, a trace of a place I once inhabited.
