Souvenirs Paradise
Formentera 2023
It is the continuation of the "Souvenir" project, the result of an aesthetic reaffirmation. It consists of 14 canvases, each reflecting different memories of an island I once belonged to and had to let go of. It is a reconciliation with words and the environment, but above all, it is an aesthetic exercise where I confront raw canvases, expanding the color palette, seeking volume in large masses of color, and turning to the most genuine form of graphic expression. Ultimately, small figures are integrated, interacting with each other and using the environment to guide the viewer and facilitate interpretation. "Souvenirs Paradise" is nothing more than allowing myself to be carried by the creative process, using the same mechanisms that plastically lead me to understand a painting. It is about grasping each memory, placing it in broad strokes of color—sometimes washed out, sometimes boldly thrown—breaking it down to find the rhythm and intensity of the memory that emerges, with graphics free from judgment. In the end, these memories are personified by a realistic figure resting upon the color, waiting to be seen so that someone might identify with it. Understanding memory as my creative process is essential so that these three artistic languages contribute to one another rather than collide. Treating the process as my ally, as well as the tool to explore and navigate my memories, is key.
